Missy Elliot, which is in itself a stage name, is also known for the stage name Missy Misdemeanor Elliot. Missy Elliot is nowadays most recognized as an artist that combines various genres – such as rap, hip hop, R&B and more, with collaborations from various artists into a single unique sound, but she is also a producer and an actress, and started her way in the music business as part of a defunct R&B group, Sista. She started the group with her friends, and they got a small amount of publicity, but the imprint representing the band disbanded.

But due to that experience, where she got to work with other artists in the industry – to perform in their tracks and write their songs, she made connections that would later on help her get publicity as an individual performer. The connection she made with another artist represented by her record company, Timbaland, would be the most prosperous and long lasting.
Timbaland is also an artist who moved on to producing beats and records for other acts, and got most of his publicity doing that, so they shared song writing ideas and production ideas, and produced albums together – for other artists or for each other.

Due to their collaboration they got big publicity and published many albums, individually or together, and due to the large success Missy Elliot had, she is set to write a biographical film about her life and Timbaland’s role in it. But it isn’t clear yet whether Timbaland will act in it or not.
Besides her work as a producer and artist, Missy Elliot uses the recognition and influence she has to perform charity work throughout her career.

So far Missy Elliot has released seven full albums and one compilation album, as well as two DVD albums, and is still active.
