New album releases top charts
The up and rising female singer, Lana Del Rey, has reached number two in the Billboard 200 music albums chart, with her new album, Born To Die, which has already sold 77,000 copies across the world, according to Nielsen, making it the highest entry into the chart, for a female artist. The number one spot is taken by Adele’s new album, 21, who has seen some shifts over the past few weeks regarding its status on the charts, and some critics say is about to drop down, and be replaced with Born To Die.
The problem is, new big releases are coming down the pipeline, including Van Halen’s new album, A Different Kind of Truth, among various others.
Even famous Jewish singer Leonard Cohen has released a new album, topping off a decades-long career, with his album Old Ideas, which has already been bought by at least 41,000 fans of the singer, and the numbers keep rising.
With such various singers, bands and genres, it’d be interesting to see who comes on top at the end of the month, and who is just a passing phase.
It isn’t clear yet whether the aging singer is going to go on yet another tour, or will he take things easy. The singer’s age has made him a hot commodity, since he’s performing less and less, but choosing more unique venues when he does perform, allowing people who couldn’t see him live, experience what it’s like.
Surprisingly enough, at least 35 percent of Cohen’s album sales are in the physical form, bought from internet retailers, showing he has a strong following despite the rise in popularity of downloadable music. More people are using the internet to buy their albums, but it seems they’re not in a hurry to abandon being able to hold an album in their hands.
Chris Brown releases a new album
Having released a varied album back in 2011, called F.A.M.E., containing R&B, hip hop, dance tracks and more, Chris Brown is now releasing a new album called Fortune. The album, that was released on the 26th of January, is said to contain energetic pop songs, to rival his previous album.
The first single to be released from this album is Turn Up the Music, which features R&B components, synthesizers, as well as canned percussion, and is an homage to LMFAO’s famous comedic song “Sexy and I Know It”.
Turn Up the Music is expected to become a hit, and the album to be yet another success of the young singer, and critics are already wondering what he’ll come up with for his next album, to top this one.
Whatever it might be, Brown said that it will definitely include a collaboration with Nas, a creator Brown has said he wanted to work with for a long time now.
But despite releasing a new album, Brown’s manager says Chris will stay out of the media’s eye, and try to focus more on performing songs from the album as well as starting to record a new one any day now. Meaning Brown will avoid interviews for the near future.
Some speculate that the move away from the media’s eye is due to his relationship with Rihanna, which rumors say might include a wedding in the near future.
Which is pretty surprising, considering they broke up with a bang, having their breakup announced on almost every media outlet out there, three years ago. But according to their Tweeter accounts, the two might get back together, and rekindle their affair. They both stated they miss each other and would have preferred if things hadn’t become so volatile and abusive.
Elliot Smith’s Roman Candle to be re-released
Elliot Smith’s Roman Candle album will be released in a re-mastered version. Roman Candles is Elliot Smith’s first solo album, and was released during the 90s. The re-mastering was made by magazine editor Larry Crane, who is a family friend and an archivist. Larry Crane intends to re-release the album in order to make it more listenable, and to fix a lot of the “jarring and scratchy” sounds in the album – especially of the guitars.
Larry Crane sought to make the sound of the album more inviting and to make the music more prominent, rather than the background noises or any specific instrument, which was too loud at the time of the recording, and was never edited to fit the rest of the instruments.
The new album will include 9 songs that Elliot Smith wrote during 1993, and recorded originally in a basement. The new re-mastered album will be released as an LP, a CD and as a digital download, to cater to every type of music fan’s tastes.
Elliot Smith was a singer and songwriter, as well as a guitar player that was born in Omaha, Nebraska in the United Stated. He was born in 1969, and died during 2003 due to several stab wounds, which might have been suicide due to depression or homicide – nothing was ruled out. Elliot Smith was cremated, and his death wasn’t investigated any farther.
Elliot Smith is known for suffering from major depression, an addiction to alcohol as well as drugs, especially during the early 2000s, but he is thought to have kicked his drug habit later on. Elliot Smith released many albums, even after his death, which included unfinished work he was working on, and toured extensively – from the early 1990s to the early 2000s.
Jimi Hendrix to release new album
It might sound weird, but Jimi Hendrix will release a new album. The Sony records company will launch a new record called the Jimi Hendrix Catalogue Project during this year, and will feature 12 studio recordings. The album is intended for collectors, since it will feature about 60 minutes of never before released material from the late artist.
The tracks will be from Jimi Hendrix and his band’s tour month during 1969, which are the final studio recordings of the artist with the Jimi Hendrix Experience band – his less familiar band mates, who played with him in his early years, but finally separated ways.
Jimi Hendrix – which was known as Johnny Allen Hendrix during the 1940s, is famous for being an innovative rock and blues guitarist, who did his most influential work on an electric guitar. The artist is also known for his tumultuous beginnings – such as his family’s extreme poverty, and his showmanship – either with the guitar or with other props, which helped him produce new sounds or just amaze the crowds.
That showmanship made him famous, but he later suffered due to it, when people booed him off stages in various performances in which he opened for other famous acts, due to not doing his regular shtick, which drove people to watch his shows.
Jimi Hendrix got recognized as a major part in rock history – in the United Stated and worldwide later on, and is a major influence on many different bands and musicians – even ones who came before Hendrix, and got famous before him – people such as Bob Dylan, who is known for playing Jimi Hendrix’s covers for several of Bob Dylan’s songs during live shows.
Jimi Hendrix was named by the Rolling Stone magazine as the top guitarist on a list of 100 greatest guitarists of all time, which was published during 2003.
